The New Normal

I would like to come up with a list of books/TV shows and movies that show children in wheelchairs or using walkers. I love when this type of things are portrayed as the new normal!!

So here are a few to start with

Books:

PK Hallinan

TV shows:

Yo Gabba Gabba

Sesame Street

Thank you, Laci, for the following suggestions! I can't wait to check them out!

Zonder Kids: Jake's New Friend;
In Jesse's Shoes by Beverly Lewis (for teaching other kids how to accept special needs kids);
Happy Day Books,
Level 3:God made our Bodies

Please leave comments with any more books, TV shows and movies that you know of. I want to watch this list GROW!

Little Bill features a friend who is in a wheelchair on some episodes. Here are a few books I found: Zonder Kids: Jake's New Friend; In Jesse's Shoes by Beverley Lewis (for teaching others kids how to accept special needs kids); Happy Day Books, Level 3:God made our Bodies

Right under my nose is a wonderful book that I was given at the hospital. It is specifically about a little boy who has Spina Bifida. I read it yesterday actually for the first time and just cried; because of how great they put the aspects of surgery, wheelchairs, braces, even catheters and diapers. It also has activity pages, and a parent's guide on how to talk with your child.

I know of a couple other books also. One is Rolling Along with Goldilocks and the Three Bears. This is the basic story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears but the little bear is in a wheelchair and is off doing PT when she comes. Very cute for younger children. Also there is a book I got from Shriners, and I believe that the SBAA offers it also, Another Way to Go, about a little boy who has SB and caths. We also have a book called Some Kids Use Wheelchairs and a book called Some Kids Wear Leg Braces. Hope this helps! I am sure I can dig out the books if you want the authors names.
